Pre-application awards for staff

Writing skill

There is an opportunity for staff to apply for support to enable them to prepare an application for National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) career development funding.  Eligible types of career development funding are listed below.

Individuals may apply for up to £20,000 of backfill support, and/or patient and public involvement costs, with accessibility and reasonable adjustments as appropriate.

Funds must ideally be spent before the new financial year commences (1st April 2025) so secondments need to be arranged as quickly as possible.  Please talk to me if you have any questions or concerns about this.

This NIHR Imperial BRC award is for individuals from professions and groups that are currently under-represented in NIHR, such as nurses, midwives, allied health professionals, pharmacists and healthcare scientists.

Applications will be assessed based on the following criteria:

  • Clearly articulated plan for how the support requested will enable you to submit a competitive NIHR career development application that you may not otherwise be able to complete
  • Realistic plan for submission of an NIHR career development application within 12 months of completion of this award

The deadline for applications is midday on Monday 25 November.  The outcome of applications submitted will be communicated by Friday 29th November. We anticipate being able to support around 6 individuals, depending on the amount of support requested.

To apply, please download the BRC Pre-application NMAHPP Application Form and email this together with a brief CV to Mekala Gunaratnam at m.gunarantham@imperial.ac.uk.  Please read the guidance at the top of the form carefully.

There is a similar call for applications from the NIHR North West London Patient Safety Research Collaboration (PSRC), to support research relating to patient safety, and from the NIHR Imperial Health Protection Research Unit (HPRU).  If you are interested in the scheme run by HPRU (infection-related) please download the PSRC Pre-application NMAHPP Application Form and contact Joe Fenn at j.fenn@imperial.ac.uk.
