Outstanding Imperial infectious disease scientist elected to EMBO Membership

Wendy Barclay

The European Molecular Biology Organisation (EMBO) is an organisation of more than 2,000 leading researchers that promotes excellence in the life sciences in Europe and beyond. Supporting talented researchers at all stages of their careers, stimulating the exchange of scientific information and helping build a research environment where scientists can achieve their best work are some of the key goals of this institution.

In July 2024, 120 scientists from across the world were elected to the EMBO Membership, an honour that celebrates research excellence and outstanding achievements in the life sciences.

Professor Wendy Barclay, Head of the Department of Infectious Disease and the NIHR Imperial BRC Infection and AMR Theme Lead, is one of the elected members in recognition of her outstanding achievements in life science research, including work that has advanced understanding of how infectious disease spreads.

Professor Barclay said: “I’m honoured to be admitted as an EMBO fellow in its 60th anniversary year and very grateful to all the wonderful people who work with me in my own lab and in the many collaborations we share.”
